"Antibiotic resistance" project completed
By nature, Swiss soils contain various antibiotic resistance genes. However, these genes are neither clinically relevant nor are they found in great numbers.
The "Antibiotic resistance" project conducted by Brion Duffy and Theo Smits from Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) has collected data on the biological diversity of resistance genes and dynamics as affected by land-use practices. This will contribute to the development of risk reduction strategies and animal waste application guidelines.
